An eraser or rubber is not just an article of stationery that is used for rubbing out pencil and also pen mistakes - its a must have accessory for every pupil in South Africa. Another must have is a pencil sharpener - a device for sharpening a pencil's writing point by shaving away its worn surface. Pencil sharpeners may be operated manually or by an electric motor. Then there is the famous old correction fluid (invented in 1951) - an opaque, white fluid applied to paper to mask errors in text. Once dried, it can be written over. It is typically packaged in small bottles, and the lid has an attached brush.
